as the rumors tell, this obscure piece of music was arranged by three acquaintances, who, by mere coincidence, formed a spontaneous, poly-toxic think tank one marvellous sunday morning, celebrating the beauty of old house music, while at the same time mocking the somehow cheap and predictable functionality of the four to the floor sound design. to honor the inspirational value of situations like these, the decision was made to share the result with a bigger audience. as a meta text, the lyrics form a tongue in cheek comment on nostalgic good old days aesthetics, and are simultaneously, and quite paradoxically, reminiscent of the utopian and transgressive vision of early house and techno music. if there is anything that we can retrieve from this vision today, it is the encouragement to create funny, pleasant and playful situations for ourselves and the like-minded, escaping the seriousness and boredom of the professionalized party and music business. and this is exactly the spirit, which is materialized on this piece of wax.

unusually for a record (for me,at least), constants collects tracks written in four very different moments in time: some are recent - so recent ive only had the opportunity to play them out just a handful of times - while others are over one year old. i really wish the story behind this ep would be a bit more interesting so this text could completely blow your mind but im afraid there were no dragons, no sex, no drugs and definitely no rock n roll involved. all four were mostly produced by me while sipping coffee and wearing boxer shorts in front of a computer. i could somehow try to describe the music on here but it would probably take less for you to give it a listen. however, if you happen to be one of the humans that prefer reading about music. anyway, im really happy to see these finally out, especially on a label i have always looked up to like vakant. i really used to think smoke, kaden and ozer were aliens at some hopefully you will enjoy this music as much as i loved writing and playing it out.

san gabriel is the new forward-thinking beat project from the multi-instrumentalist/producer butchy fuego. his upcoming ep volfe is full of warped and pulsing pan-global club music, a signature marriage of tropical riddims, dubbed out soundscapes and modern r&b minimalism. striking the perfect balance of booming bass and tricky rhythms, our first taste from the upcoming ep >gore text< makes for some serious sideways heat. san gabriel has caught the attention of the press early on with signature frantic rhythms and twitchy hi-hat work. along with >gore text<, san gabriel offers up a b-side (not on volfe) called >nu boots< that evokes some aztec sun rave in the year 2040 vibes. just a fiery taste of whats to come on this upcoming debut ep volfe.

thinking too much/where the helios is juk juks second release on nommos. thinking too much is the most direct juk juk release so far. its peak time fare, aimed squarely at the dancefloor. the dreamy intro will fool the unsuspecting, sucking them in and propelling them on a tripped out ride on a techno ghost train, buffered by a cushion of warm throbbing bass. where the helios is the real dream side. a floating, hallucinogenic, spaced out drift, driven by a crisp, pared back rhythm and a gorgeous, woozy vocal- led melody. juk juks first release for nommos was unwrap/fall and before that his debut, winter turn spring/frozen, was put out by kieran (four tet) hebden on his highly regarded text label. all juk juks output to date has been critically acclaimed, coverage including fact magazine, pitchfork, mix mag, abeano, the fader amongst others. his releases have also received significant club and radio plays including mainstream radio 1 support from admirers giles peterson and rob da bank, who has promised support for this release. four tet said the room went off when playing thinking too much at a recent event.

with >dazed<, senking continues his exploration of the abysses of sound to create dark and gloomy atmospheres. the slow beats of the two tracks are accompanied by tender, harmonic melodies, but broken by nervous, unsteady tones which seem to be a warning against hidden dangers. the first track >the dance hall walk< also features a vocal sample by micheal cramm - a text which reflects the nervousness and excitement in anticipation of some thrilling things to come. like >tweek<, senkings last ep, >dazed< is not only concerned with the depths of sound, but also with the depths of the human psyche, where there is no escape other than music itself.

the fact that they are the hottest band in the buzzing spanish independent music scene in itself may not be enough to stop the presses, nor are all the comparisions to the black keys or the band citing motorhead as their main influence. its hard to break into the crowded new band scene, but let us give you a piece of advice before deciding who should stop the presses - just sit and listen to the album first.

ok we can do a long text here... but lets not do that.... fantastic track by recast (aka fluxion)! a blissed-out track that is lush and jazzy! the experience of years of precision crafting dubby tech soundscapes is brought to these tracks, which are grooving house vibes executed in the melodic but quirky manner of isolee or luomo. lorca music is on remix duty here and did a great job with a clattering, skittering groove that is somewhere between 2-step and brokenbeat, the result is heavy and provides a nice alternative to the two recast versions. this is pure techno as we like it... not the banging big room techno, but techno we know from pioneers such as derrick may, carl craig, john beltran, stefan robber and the likes. no shit... this is just one of the most beautiful records we ve heard in a while.
